Tooth Whitening

Kansas Dental Center currently offers two types of professional whitening treatments based on your personal goals and needs:

  • In-Office Professional Whitening Treatment
    • The advantage of in-office whitening treatment is results in a single day.  You can whiten your teeth a number of shades, safely, in about an hour.  If you have that big event coming up soon, or you just want a jump start on that bright smile, this procedure is for you.  In order to achieve this, your gums and oral soft tissues are carefully isolated and prescription strength whitening gel is applied to your tooth surfaces several times over the course of about an hour.  We will additionally fabricate custom take home whitening trays so you can touch up you smile anytime at home following your in-office procedure!
  • Custom Take Home Whitening Trays
    • Success of a whitening treatment is based on how well and evenly the whitening gel is adapted against your teeth.  Custom silicone trays are the best at-home system to achieve an even and consistent result. Unlike over the counter strips, we will take a mould of your teeth and fabricate custom trays to precisely fit your teeth. Trays are loaded with prescription at-home bleaching gel and worn for 30 minutes to 4 hours per day depending on the concentration of the gel.
    • 20% Carbamide Peroxide - 2-4 hours daily
    • 35% Carbamide Peroxide - 30 minutes - 1 hour daily

Porcelain Veneers

  • A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that covers the front surfaces and edges of your teeth.  Veneers can enhance the shape, size, or color of your teeth and even correct slight misalignment.  Typically any cosmetic case requires extensive planning.  Impressions will be taken of your teeth and sent to our dental laboratory in order to create a "wax-up" model of the proposed veneers, this model can be used to evaluate what your final smile will look like. Your teeth are then prepared for veneers and temporary veneers are placed based upon the wax-up design; any final adjustments or modifications can be made at this time.  At the next appointment, the permanent porcelain veneers are bonded to your tooth structure to provide the final result.

Ceramic Crowns

  • Ceramic crowns are restorations that fully cover the portion of tooth you can see above the gum line.  If a tooth is already heavily restored with filling material or a crack is suspected, a crown is the restoration of choice.  The ceramic material is both esthetic (completely tooth colored inside and out) and strong.  They contain no metal, so you will not see any dark bands around the gum line that was common when using older porcelain/metal crowns.  Modern ceramic materials can be used on both front and back teeth.

Cosmetic Bonding

  • Minor chipping of tooth enamel, which typically happens around the edges of front teeth, can be conservatively restored with tooth colored filling materials, also commonly known as bonding.  Tooth colored filling material is placed and sculpted to match the color and natural contours of your teeth.
